Samsung Biologics
Moktan Productions was contacted by Samsung in collaboration with BBC StoryWorks who were looking for a video production company in Seoul to shoot and capture several interviews as well as b-roll content of Samsung Biologics Lab, which would then be combined with the stock footage content from the BBC to tell the story of Samsung’s involvement in mass production of the COVID-19 vaccine.
For the shoot, we were granted special access to the Samsung Biologics Lab, which is very secure and protected. To maintain a sterile environment for manufacturing, we had to take incredibly meticulous safety measures to ensure that all people and equipment entering the lab were completely sterilized.
We spoke with several of Samsung's top scientists about the difficulties they encountered while manufacturing large amounts of the vaccine and how difficult it was to produce such a large number of vaccines in such a short period of time. All these high-profile employees had extremely busy schedules, so we had to work quickly and effectively to guarantee that there was no delay when these high-ranking staff members arrived for their interviews.
Next to the hygiene measures, another challenge we faced was the factory environment itself. Since there was a lot of noise, finding a location without intrusive background audio that also worked on a visual aesthetics level was difficult but, after scouting the possible options and carefully planning the shoot we were able to complete the project without any setbacks.
The client was very pleased with the footage, and they oversaw the post-work on the film.
